Algebra, chapter X, § 5. Modules d’extensions

We will see below (X, p. 107, Prop. 6) some finiteness properties of the modules Ext⁡An(M,N)\operatorname{Ext}^{n}_{A}(M,N). For example, if AA is commutative and noetherian, and if MM and NN are AA-modules of finite type, each AA-module Ext⁡An(M,N)\operatorname{Ext}^{n}_{A}(M,N) is of finite type.

Let f:M′→Mf : M' \to M and g:N→N’g : N \to N’ be homomorphisms of AA-modules. Set

Ext⁡A(f,g)=H(Homgr⁡A(L(f),I(g))) ; \operatorname{Ext}_{A}(f,g)=H(\operatorname{Homgr}_{A}(L(f),I(g))) \,;

this is a homomorphism of degree 0 of graded kk-modules

Ext⁡A(f,g):Ext⁡A(M,N)→Ext⁡A(M′,N′) , \operatorname{Ext}_{A}(f,g):\operatorname{Ext}_{A}(M,N)\to\operatorname{Ext}_{A}(M',N')\,,

whose homogeneous components are denoted

Ext⁡An(f,g):Ext⁡An(M,N)→Ext⁡An(M′,N′) . \operatorname{Ext}^{n}_{A}(f,g):\operatorname{Ext}^{n}_{A}(M,N)\to\operatorname{Ext}^{n}_{A}(M',N')\,.

According to Prop. 1 of [X], p. 82, the canonical homomorphism

λ0(L(M),I(N)):H0(Homgr⁡A(L(M),I(N)))→Hom⁡A(H0(L(M)),H0(I(N))) \lambda^{0}(L(M),I(N)):H^{0}(\operatorname{Homgr}_{A}(L(M),I(N))) \to\operatorname{Hom}_{A}(H_{0}(L(M)),H^{0}(I(N)))

is bijective; using the isomorphisms M→H0(L(M))M\to H_{0}(L(M)) and H0(I(N))→NH^{0}(I(N))\to N, one deduces a canonical isomorphism

(7)

λM,N:Ext⁡A0(M,N)→Hom⁡A(M,N) . \lambda_{M,N}:\operatorname{Ext}^{0}_{A}(M,N)\to\operatorname{Hom}_{A}(M,N)\,.

We will always identify Ext⁡A0(M,N)\operatorname{Ext}^{0}_{A}(M,N) with Hom⁡A(M,N)\operatorname{Hom}_{A}(M,N) via this isomorphism. Then the kk-linear map Ext⁡A(f,g)\operatorname{Ext}_{A}(f,g) can be identified with Hom⁡A(f,g)\operatorname{Hom}_{A}(f,g).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
