Algebra, chapter X, § 8. Dimension homologique

We call the homological dimension of AA and denote by dh⁡(A)\operatorname{dh}(A) the supremum in Z\mathbf{Z} of the set of integers nn for which there exist two AA-modules M and N such that Ext⁡An(M,N)≠0\operatorname{Ext}_A^n(M,N)\neq 0.

We have dh⁡(0)=−∞\operatorname{dh}(0)=-\infty, dh⁡(A)≥0\operatorname{dh}(A)\geq 0 if A≠0A\neq 0. We shall see below that dh⁡(A)=1\operatorname{dh}(A)=1 if AA is principal and is not a field, and that, if K is a commutative field

dh⁡(K[X1,…,Xn])=n. \operatorname{dh}(K[X_1,\ldots,X_n])=n.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
