Commutative Algebra, IX, p. 46
Retain the hypotheses and notation of the preceding exercise.
a) For each extension L of K in Ω, consider the Zp-module
W(L)=(W(L)/pW(L))⊗Zp(Qp/Zp)
and, for each integer n⩾0, its submodule
Wn(L)=(W(L)/pW(L))⊗Zp(p−nZp/Zp).
Prove that W(L) can be identified with the inductive limit of its submodules Wn(L) with respect to the inclusion mappings
in:Wn(L)→Wn+1(L).
b) For every integer n⩾0, let ψn be the mapping of Wn(L) into Wn(L)/pWn(L) which associates to x⊗p−n the class of x. Prove that ψn is an isomorphism and that one has
Vn∘ψn=ψn+1∘in,
where Vn is the mapping of Wn(L)/pWn(L) into Wn+1(L)/pWn+1(L) induced by the shift V. Deduce that W(L) can be identified with the inductive limit of the groups Wn(L)/pWn(L) with respect to the mappings Vn.
c) Let a∈W(K). If n is an integer such that a belongs to Wn(K), the extension K(p−1(ψn(a))) was constructed in Exercise 19, c). This extension does not depend on the choice of the integer n; it is denoted by K(p−1(a)). If A is a subset of W(K), we denote by K(p−1(A)) the extension generated by the fields K(p−1(a)) for a running through A. Prove that K(p−1(A)) is an abelian extension of K. Prove, in this situation, assertions analogous to assertions (i) to (iv) of Exercise 19, c).
