Commutative Algebra, IX, p. 49
Let M be the set of positive rational numbers whose denominator is a power of p, endowed with the monoid structure given by addition. Let k be a perfect field of characteristic p. We endow W(k) and its field of fractions K with the topology given by the valuation of W(k). Let n be a positive integer. Let C be the K-algebra of the product monoid Mn. For 1⩽i⩽n, we shall denote by Ti the image in C of the element of M whose i-th component is 1 and whose other components are 0, and for α∈Mn we shall denote by Tα the image of α. For α∈Mn, we put
den(α)=1⩽i⩽nsup(p−inf(0,wp(αi))) where
wp denotes the
p-adic valuation of
Q. We denote by A the ring
k[T1,...,Tn], by B the ring
W(k)[T1,...,Tn], by
B the algebra of
Mn over
W(k), and by
A the algebra of
Mn over
k. We consider A as a subring of
A, B as a subring of
B, and
B as a subring of C. Let E be the set of elements of C of the form
∑α∈Mnden(α)aαTα where the family of finite support
(aα) consists of elements of
W(k). Let F be the automorphism of C coinciding with the Frobenius automorphism on
W(k) and satisfying
F(Tiα)=Tipα for every
i(1⩽i⩽n) and every
α∈M, and let V be the automorphism of the additive group of C defined by
V=pF−1. a) E is a subring of C, containing B and stable under F and V. b) E is a
W(k)-module, and is the sum of its submodules
ViB, for
i∈N. c) One has
⋂i∈NViE=0. d) For every
i∈N, one has
B∩ViE=piB.
e) Let ρ:B→A denote the mapping obtained by reducing the coefficients of the elements of Mn modulo pW(k). Then ρ(E)=A, and ρ induces an isomorphism ρ′ of E/VE onto A. f) For every integer r⩾0, VrE/Vr+1E is a module over E/VE. By means of ρ′−1, it may be considered as an A-module. The mapping of A into VrE/Vr+1E, which to a∈A associates the class of Vre, for every element e∈E satisfying ρ(e)=a, is an isomorphism of the A-module φ∗′A (p. 44, Exercise 13) onto the A-module VrE/Vr+1E. g) There exists a unique homomorphism of W(k)-algebras σ:B→W(A) such that for 1⩽i⩽n and r∈M, one has σ(Tir)=τA(Tir). One has σ∘F=FA and σ∘V=VA∘σ (taking Exercise 14, p. 44, as a model). h) The homomorphism σ induces a homomorphism of W(k)-algebras σ~:E→W(A), which is the only W(k)-homomorphism of E into W(A) satisfying σ~(Ti)=τA(Ti) for 1⩽i⩽n and σ~∘V=VA∘σ~. i) For every integer r⩾1, σ~ induces an isomorphism of E/VrE onto Wr(A) (use Exercise 13, p. 44); σ~ is injective. j) Let C^ be the completion of C for the p-adic topology. For every x∈C^, there exists a unique family (aα)α∈Mn of elements of K, such that aα tends to 0 when α tends to infinity along the filter of complements of finite subsets of Mn, and that x is the sum of the family aαTα. k) Let E^ be the set of elements x=∑α∈Mnden(α)ααTα of C^ such that one has aα∈W(k) for every α∈Mn. Prove that σ~:E→W(A) extends to an isomorphism of E^ onto W(A).
