Commutative Algebra, IX, p. 60
Let A be a ring. Define mappings Fn,Vn(n∈J) of Λ(A) into itself by the formulas
Fn(E(a))=E(Fn(a)),Vn(E(a))=E(Vn(a)) for every
a∈U(A).
a) One has L(Fn(f))=fn(L(f)) and L(Vn(f))=vn(L(f)) for every f∈Λ(A). Let n,m be in J and put d=pgcd(n,m).
b) Now prove that Fn is an endomorphism of the ring Λ(A), and that one has Fn∘Fm=Fnm. For every prime number p and every f∈Λ(A), one has Fp(f)≡f∗pmod.p∗Λ(A), where f∗p denotes the product in the ring Λ(A) of p terms equal to f, and where p∗Λ(A) denotes the principal ideal of Λ(A) generated by the sum in Λ(A) of p terms equal to the identity element 1+T, in other words by (1+T)p.
c) Prove that Vn is an endomorphism of the additive group of Λ(A), and that one has Vn∘Vm=Vnm.
d) For every f∈Λ(A), one has Fn(Vm(f))=Vm/d(Fn/d(f))d. In particular Fn(Vn(f))=fn, and Fn∘Vm=Vm∘Fn if d=1.
e) For every f,g in Λ(A), one has
Vn(f)∗Vm(g)=Vnm/d(Fm/d(f)∗Fn/d(g))d,Vn(f∗Fm(g))n/d=Vn(f)∗Vn/d(Fm/d(g)),Vn(Fm(g))n/d=Vn(1+T)∗Vn/d(Fm/d(g)). In particular, one has
Vn(f)∗Vn(g)=Vn(f∗g)n and
Vn(f)∗Vm(g)=Vnm(Fm(f)∗Fn(g))sid=1.
f) One has
Vn(f)(T)=f(−(−T)n) for every
f∈Λ(A). In particular
Vn(1+aT)=1−a(−T)n for every
a∈A.
g) For every a∈A, one has
Fn(1+aT)=1+anT. For every
f∈Λ(A), one has
Fn(f)(−(−T)n)=N(f(T)) where
N denotes the norm in the extension
A[[Tn]]⊂A[[T]]. (It is enough to treat the case where
f∈A[T], then to embed
A in a ring
B where
f decomposes into a product of linear factors, to which one may apply the first formula.)
For every a∈A, one has
Fn(1−a(−T)m)=(1−an/d(−T)m/d)d.
(Observe that 1−a(−T)m=Vm(1+aT) and use c and f.)
h) For every a,b∈A, one has
(1−a(−T)n)∗(1−b(−T)m)=(1−am/dbn/d(−T)mn/d)d.
(Use the first formula for e.)
