Let (Ai)i∈I be a family of rings, A=∏iAi, and pi:A→Ai the canonical projection for each i∈I. a) The mapping α:A[[T]]→∏iAi[[T]], which maps ∑anTn to (∑pi(an)Tn)i∈I, is an isomorphism of rings. By restriction, it defines an isomorphism of rings α:Λ(A)→∏iΛ(Ai). Moreover, for every n∈J, one has α∘λnA=(∏iλnAi)∘α. (Use the "universal polynomials" of Exercise 46, d), p. 59.) b) Suppose that, for each i∈I, Ai is endowed with a pre-λ-ring structure λi:Ai→Λ(Ai). By identifying Λ(A) with ∏iΛ(Ai) by means of α, one defines λ=∏iλi:A→Λ(A). Then (A,λ) is a pre-λ-ring, called the product of the family ((Ai,λi))i∈I. For (A,λ) to be a λ-ring, it is necessary and sufficient that (Ai,λi) be one for each i∈I.
