Commutative Algebra, X, p. 152
Let A be a ring, M an A-module, x1,…,xr elements of A. (a) For every integer p such that 1≤p≤r, put Mp=M/(x2M+…+xpM). Prove that if the sequence (x1,…,xr) is M-regular, the sequence (x1,xp+1,xp+2,…,xr) is Mp-regular (reason by induction on p). (b) In order that the sequences (x1,x3) and (x2,x3) be M-regular, it is necessary and sufficient that the sequence (x1x2,x3) be M-regular. (c) Let xp′∈A (1≤p≤r). In order that the sequences (x1,…,xp,…,xr) and (x1,…,xp′,…,xr) be M-regular, it is necessary and sufficient that the sequence (x1,…,xpxp′,…,xr) be M-regular (use a and b). (d) Let n1,…,nr be integers ≥1. In order that the sequence (x1n1,…,xrnr) be M-regular, it is necessary and sufficient that the sequence (x1,…,xr) be M-regular.
