Exercise 3, § 8
Commutative Algebra, X, p. 174
Let be a field, the ring , the ideal . We denote by the graded dual of (No. 6), and by the dual basis of (denoted in loc. cit.).
(a) To every finitely generated -submodule of we associate the ideal of . Prove that this defines a bijective correspondence between the finitely generated submodules of and the ideals of contained in and such that has finite length; the inverse bijection associates to the ideal the submodule of formed by the elements annihilated by (observe that is an -module of Matlis).
(b) In order that be a Gorenstein ring, it is necessary and sufficient that the -module be monogenic.
(c) Let be the element of ; prove that the ideal corresponding to the submodule of is generated by the quadratic forms for and for . If the ideal is not completely secant; the Gorenstein ring is not a complete intersection ring (cf. § 5, exerc. 5).
