Let C be a complex of right A-modules and M a left A-module. The torsion product of C and M is defined to be the graded k-module TorA(C,M)=H(C⊗AL(M)). If f:C→C′ is a morphism of complexes and g:M→M′ a homomorphism of A-modules, we denote by TorA(f,g)=H(f⊗L(g)).
a) If f:C→C′ is a homomorphism, TorA(f,1) is an isomorphism; if C is flat and right bounded, the graded k-module TorA(C,M) is isomorphic to H(C⊗AM).
b) If 0→C′→C→C′′→0 is an exact sequence of complexes of right A-modules and if M is an A-module, prove that there exists an exact sequence
⋯⟶TornA(C′,M)⟶TornA(C,M)⟶TornA(C′′,M)⟶Torn−1A(C′,M)⟶⋯.
If 0→M′⟶iM⟶pM′′→0 is an exact sequence of A-modules, prove that one has an exact sequence:
⋯⟶TornA(C,M′)⟶TornA(C,M)⟶TornA(C,M′′)⟶Torn−1A(C,M′)⟶⋯.
(Notice that there exists a homotopism of L(M′′) onto the cone of L(i).)
c) Prove that there exists a spectral sequence ′E (X, pp. 175-177, exercises 14 to 17) converging to TorA(C,M), such that
′Epq2=TorpA(Hq(C),M).
If moreover the complex C is right bounded, prove that there exists a spectral sequence ′′E, converging to TorA(C,M), such that
′′Epq2=Hp(TorqA(C,M))
(consider the double complex C⊗AL(M)).
