[^1] Let X be a topological space and let be a point of X.
Let G be a group and let be a group homomorphism. Let be a decreasing sequence of subspaces of X whose intersection is reduced to the point . For every , let be the set of elements of G which are images by of the class of a loop contained in . a) If G is countable, the sequence is stationary. (Reduce to the case where for every and consider an enumeration of G; construct by induction elements such that, denoting , one has for . Now prove that the intersection is not empty.)
b) Suppose that G is abelian and that its identity element is the only indefinitely divisible element of G. Then is reduced to the identity element. (Let be an element of the intersection; for every , let whose image by is equal to . Construct by induction path classes such that , where is a fixed integer . Now prove that is indefinitely divisible. Deduce that .) c) More generally, if G is abelian and if every indefinitely divisible element of G is torsion, then the intersection of the is formed of torsion elements.
