Let v=(v1,...,vn):Rn→Rn be a mapping of class C1 and let δ be a real number >0; we make the following assumptions:
– The support of v is contained in [−δ,1+δ]×B˚n−1;
– For every x∈[0,1−δ[, one has v1(x,0,...,0)>0, and v1(1,0,...,0)=0;
– For every x∈[0,1], one has v2(x,0,...,0)=⋯=vn(x,0,...,0)=0. Let Φ:Rn×R→Rn be the integral flow of the mapping (x,t)↦v(x) (VAR, 9.1.3); for t∈R, we denote by Φt the mapping x↦Φ(x,t).
a) Prove that there exists a real number τ such that Φτ([0,1]×{0})⊂[1− δ,1]×{0}.
b) Let j:[−δ,1+δ]×Bn−1→Rn be a continuous injective mapping. For every t∈[0,1], put At=j([t,1]×{0}). Prove that, for every t∈]0,1[, the subspaces A0 and At are isotopic.
c) Let P be a subset of Rn homeomorphic to [0,1] which is the union of a finite family of segments. Prove that P is isotopic to a segment.
