Let E be a complex Hilbert space. Let Ts denote the topology of simple convergence on L(E). Let H denote the set of complex numbers of strictly positive imaginary part.
Let (un) be a sequence in A(E). Suppose that
(i) There exists λ+∈H such that R(un,λ+) converges in L(E) endowed with the
topology(ii) There existsTs; letλ−∈vH+ be its limit ;such that R(un,λ−) converges in L(E) endowed with the topology Ts;
(iii) The image F of the endomorphism v+ is dense in E.
Let D be the open disk in C formed by the λ∈H such that
∣λ−λ+∣<∣I(λ+)∣1
a) For every λ∈D, the series
rλ=n=0∑∞(λ+−λ)v+n+1
converges in L(E). Moreover, for every λ∈D, the sequence (R(un,λ))n converges to rλ in L(E) endowed with the topology Ts.
b) There exists a unique holomorphic mapping from H into L(E) which coincides on D with the mapping λ↦rλ. It is again denoted by λ↦rλ.
c) There exists a unique holomorphic mapping from C−R into L(E) which coincides on H with the mapping λ↦rλ, and which satisfies rλ∗=rλ for every λ∈C−R. It satisfies rλ−=v−, and for every λ∈C−R, the sequence (R(un,λ)) converges to rλ in L(E) endowed with the topology Ts.
d) For all λ and μ in C-R, one has rλ−rμ=(μ−λ)=rμrλ and rλrμ=rμrλ. e) The image of rλ is equal to F for every λ∈C−R.
f ) For every λ∈C−R, the endomorphism rλ is injective ; the partial operator λ1E−rλ−1 of domain F does not depend on the choice of λ∈C−R; it is denoted by u. g) The partial operator u is self-adjoint ; for every λ∈ C-R, one has R(u,λ)= rλ.
h) The sequence (un) converges to u for the Ts-resolvent topology. (“Kato-Trotter theorem”)
