Exercise 20, § 2

Commutative Algebra, I, 46

Let AA be an integral domain, BB an AA-algebra which is a flat AA-module and MM a torsion-free AA-module. Show that, if t∈Bt \in B is not a divisor of zero, the relation t⋅z=0t \cdot z = 0 for z∈B⊗AMz \in B \otimes_A M implies z=0z = 0. (Reduce this to the case where MM is finitely generated and, by embedding MM in a finitely generated free AA-module, to the case where M=AM = A.)

(*) This is a modification of the terminology "regular ring" introduced in Algebra, Chapter VIII, § 6, Exercise 15, as this has a completely different meaning in Commutative Algebra.
