Let AA be a ring, (Sλ)λ∈L(S_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} a family of multiplicative subsets of AA and M=⨁λ∈LSλ−1AM = \bigoplus_{\lambda \in L} S_\lambda^{-1}A. Show that the two following properties are equivalent: (aa)MM is a faithfully flat AA-module; (β\beta) for every maximal ideal mm of AA, there exists λ∈L\lambda \in L such that m∩Sλ=∅m \cap S_\lambda = \varnothing. In particular, if SS is a multiplicative subset of AA, the AA-module S−1AS^{-1}A is faithfully flat only if the elements of SS are invertible, in which case S−1AS^{-1}A is identified with AA.
