Exercise 3, § 5

Commutative Algebra, III, 259

With the notation of Exercise 11 of § 3, let NN be the submodule of E^\hat{E} which is the closure in E^\hat{E} of the submodule of E^\hat{E} generated by the vectors pe2n−1−pne2npe_{2n-1} - p^n e_{2n} (n≥1n \geq 1) and let M=E^/NM = \hat{E}/N. Show that under the pp-adic topology the submodule pMpM of MM is not closed in MM and deduce that MM is a Zp\mathbf{Z}_p-module which is ideally Hausdorff but not absolutely Hausdorff with respect to pp.
