Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.
Let be a Laskerian ring in which every ideal has a unique reduced primary decomposition in .
(a) Show that for every ideal all the elements of are minimal in this set (use Exercise 25 (b)). Let be a reduced primary decomposition in and let be the radical of (). Show that every prime ideal of distinct from the is maximal (use Exercise 24 (c)). If is a prime ideal of , an ideal contained in and such that is a nil ideal in , show that every ideal such that is -primary. Deduce that if one of the is not maximal, is the only -primary ideal and (use Exercise 16).
(b) Show that in every increasing sequence of ideals equal to their radicals is stationary. Deduce that every strictly increasing sequence of ideals such that every quotient contains non-nilpotent elements in is finite. Conclude from this that for every prime ideal of there exists a primary ideal with radical which is finitely generated. In particular, each of the which is not maximal is finitely generated and therefore contains an idempotent which generates it (Chapter 11, § 4, Exercise 15).
(c) Show that, for (consider if and are not maximal). Conclude that is isomorphic to the product of a finite number of rings such that: either , is a local ring whose maximal ideal is a nil ideal; or is an integral domain in which every prime ideal is maximal and in which every ideal is only contained in a finite number of maximal ideals (cf. § 1, Exercise 2). \* Obtain the converse.
