Exercise 7, § 2

Commutative Algebra, IV, 291

Let A be a Noetherian ring, M a finitely generated A-module and (pi)1≤i≤n(p_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} a sequence obtained by arranging the elements of Ass⁡(M)\operatorname{Ass}(M) in any order. Show that there exists a composition series (Mi)0≤i≤n(M_i)_{0 \leq i \leq n} of MM such that, for 0≤i≤n−10 \leq i \leq n - 1, Mi+1M_{i+1} is pip_i-primary in MM, (use Proposition 4 of no. 3).
