Bourbaki

Exercise 8, § 2

Commutative Algebra, IV, 292

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let AA be a Noetherian ring, EE a finitely generated AA-module, FF a submodule of EE and mm an ideal of AA. Let F=⋂p∈Ass⁡(E/F)Q(p)F = \bigcap_{p \in \operatorname{Ass}(E/F)} Q(p) be a reduced primary decomposition of FF in EE. Show that the closure of FF in EE under the mm-adic topology on EE is equal to ⋂p∈ΦQ(p)\bigcap_{p \in \Phi} Q(p), where Φ\Phi is the set of p∈Ass⁡(E/F)p \in \operatorname{Ass}(E/F) such that p+m≠Ap + m \neq A. (Consider first the case where FF is pp-primary in EE and show that, if p+m=Ap + m = A, FF is dense in EE; proceed to the general case using Exercise 15 of § 1 and Chapter 111, § 3, no. 4, Corollary 1 to Theorem 3).
