Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.
Let K be a field of characteristic which is Henselian with a valuation ; let be an involutive automorphism of K such that and let be a non-degenerate Hermitian form on a finite-dimensional vector space E over K.
(a) Let be the matrix of with respect to a basis of E; show that there exists an element of the order group of such that, if is another Hermitian form on E whose matrix with respect to satisfies the conditions for every ordered pair , then and are equivalent. (Argue as in Algebra, Chapter IX, § 6, Exercise 6, using Exercise 14 (a) above.)
(b) Suppose that is the identity (hence is a symmetric form) and that the valuation is discrete, normed and such that ; let x be a uniformizer for . Show that is characterized, up to equivalence, by its index and by two symmetric bilinear forms of index 0 on vector spaces and respectively, where k is the residue field of and . (With the aid of a Witt decomposition, reduce it to the case where is of index 0; with the aid of Exercise 19, show that, for all , the set of such that is a module over the ring A of the valuation . Show that, if , then and, by taking quotients, symmetric bilinear forms can therefore be derived from on the vector k-spaces and . Use Exercise 6 (c) of § 3 and the fact that the equation has a solution in A for .) Consider the case where k is finite (cf. Algebra, Chapter IX, § 6, Exercise 4).
