Exercise 1, § 1

Commutative Algebra, VII, 545

Let KK be a field and AA the subring of the ring of formal power series K[[T]]K[[T]] consisting of the series in which the coefficient of TT is 0; AA is a Noetherian local integral domain which is not integrally closed.

(a) Show that every principal ideal of AA, which is non-zero and distinct from AA, contains a unique element of the form Tn+λTn+1T^n + \lambda T^{n+1} where λ∈K\lambda \in K, n≥2n \geq 2; moreover, this ideal contains all the powers TmT^m where m≥n+2m \geq n + 2. Deduce that the non-principal ideals of AA are the ideals AT′′+AT′′+1AT'' + AT''+1 where n≥2n \geq 2.

(b) Show that every fractional ideal of AA is divisorial (prove that every non-principal ideal is the intersection of two principal ideals). Describe the structure of the monoid D(A)D(A). The only prime ideals of AA are the maximal ideal m=AT2+AT3m = AT^2 + AT^3 and (0)(0).
