Exercise 11, § 2

Commutative Algebra, VII, 558

Let KK be a field and (vi)i∈I(v_i)_{i \in I} a family of discrete valuations on KK satisfying conditions (AK_I) and (AK_{III}) of § 1, no. 3 and such that, for every integer rr, every family (nh)1≤h≤r(n_h)_{1 \leq h \leq r} of integers ≥0\geq 0, every family (th)1≤h≤r(t_h)_{1 \leq h \leq r} of distinct elements of II and every family (ah)1≤h≤r(a_h)_{1 \leq h \leq r} of elements of KK, there exists x∈Kx \in K such that vth(x−ah)≥nhv_{t_h}(x - a_h) \geq n_h for 1≤h≤r1 \leq h \leq r and vi(x)=0v_i(x) = 0 for ii distinct from the tht_h. Show that the intersection AA of the valuation rings of the viv_i, is a Dedekind domain whose field of fractions is KK and that (vi)i∈I(v_i)_{i \in I} is the family of essential valuations of AA. (Use Exercise 7 of § 1; then prove that two distinct prime ideals of height 1 are relatively prime and deduce that every prime ideal ≠0\neq 0 of AA is maximal.)
