Let AA be a Dedekind domain, KK its field of fractions, PP the set of prime ideals ≠0\neq 0 of AA and for all ϱ∈P\varrho \in P let vϱv_\varrho be the corresponding essential valuation on KK. For every sub-A-module MM of KK and all ϱ∈P\varrho \in P we write vϱ(M)=inf⁡vϱ(x)v_\varrho(M) = \inf v_\varrho(x) (taken in R‾\overline{\mathbf{R}}); if M≠0M \neq 0, vϱ(M)<+∞v_\varrho(M) < +\infty for all ϱ∈P\varrho \in P and vϱ(M)≤0v_\varrho(M) \leq 0 for almost all ϱ∈P\varrho \in P. If M,NM, N are two sub-A-modules of KK, show that the relation M⊂NM \subset N is equivalent to vϱ(N)≤vϱ(M)v_\varrho(N) \leq v_\varrho(M) for all ϱ∈P\varrho \in P (use Proposition 9 of § 1, no. 5). Conversely, for every family (vϱ)ϱ∈P(v_\varrho)_{\varrho \in P} of elements equal to an integer or −∞-\infty and such that vϱ≤0v_\varrho \leq 0 for almost all ϱ∈P\varrho \in P, there exists a unique sub-A-module MM of KK such that vϱ(M)=vϱv_\varrho(M) = v_\varrho for all ϱ∈P\varrho \in P.
