Bourbaki

Exercise 27, § 3

Commutative Algebra, VII, 571

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

(a) Let KK be a field and BB the ring generated, in an algebraic closure of the field of rational functions K(U,V,X,Y)K(U, V, X, Y) in 4 indeterminates, by the polynomial ring K[U,V,X,Y]K[U, V, X, Y] and a root zz of the polynomial

F=Z7−U5X2−V4Y3. F = Z^7 - U^5 X^2 - V^4 Y^3.
Show that BB is a factorial domain (cf. Exercise 7).

(b) Let p\mathfrak{p} be the (prime) ideal generated by X,Y,U,VX, Y, U, V and zz in AA and write C=Ap[[T]]C = A_{\mathfrak{p}}[[T]]; show that CC is a Noetherian local integral domain, which is not factorial, but whose associated graded domain gr(C)\mathrm{gr}(C) is factorial (use Exercise 8).
