Exercise 1, § 3

Algebra, I, 129

Let α↦fα\alpha \mapsto f_\alpha be an action of Ω\Omega on EE. Let FF be the image of Ω\Omega in EEE^E and GG the stable subset of EEE^E under the law (f,g)↦f∘g(f, g) \mapsto f \circ g generated by FF and the identity mapping of EE.

(a) Show that every subset of EE which is stable under the action of Ω\Omega is also stable under the restriction to GG of the canonical action of EEE^E on EE (no. 1, Example 3).

(b) Let XX be a subset of EE; show that the stable subset of EE generated by XX is the set of f(x)f(x) where ff runs through GG and xx runs through XX.
