Let E, F1,F2 be three A-modules and f1:F1→E,f2:F2→E two A-linear mappings. The fibre product of F1 and F2 relative to f1 and f2 is the submodule of the product F1×F2 consisting of the ordered pairs (x1,x2) such that f1(x1)=f2(x2); it is denoted by F1×EF2.
(a) For every ordered pair of A-linear mappings u1:G→F1,u2:G→F2 such that f1∘u1=f2∘u2, there exists one and only one A-linear mapping u:G→F1×EF2 such that p1∘u=u1,p2∘u=u2, where p1 and p2 denote the restrictions to F1×EF2 of the projections pr_1 and pr_2.
(b) Let E′,F1′,F2′ be three A-modules, f1′:F1′→E′,f2′:F2′→E′ A-linear mappings and F1′×E′F2′ the fibre product relative to these mappings. For every system of A-linear mappings v1:F1→F1′,v2:F2→F2′,w:E→E′ such that f1′∘v1=w∘f1,f2′∘v2=w∘f2, let v be the A-linear mapping of F1×EF2 into F1′×E′F2′ corresponding to the two linear mappings v1∘p1 and v2∘p2. Show that if v1 and v2 are injective, so is v; give an example where v1 and v2 are surjective but v is not surjective (take E′={0}). If w is injective and v1 and v2 surjective, show that v is surjective.
