Bourbaki

Exercise 6, § 4

Algebra, II, 397

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let A,BA, B be two rings, EE a left AA-module, FF an (A,B)(A, B)-bimodule and GG a right BB-module. (a) Show that there exists one and only one Z\mathbf{Z}-linear mapping

σ:HomB(F,G)⊗AE→HomB(HomA(E,F),G) \sigma : \mathrm{Hom}_B(F, G) \otimes_A E \to \mathrm{Hom}_B(\mathrm{Hom}_A(E, F), G)
such that for x∈Ex \in E and u∈HomB(F,G)u \in \mathrm{Hom}_B(F, G), σ(u⊗x)\sigma(u \otimes x) is the mapping v↦u(v(x))v \mapsto u(v(x)) of HomA(E,F)\mathrm{Hom}_A(E, F) into GG. (b) If EE is a finitely generated projective AA-module, show that σ\sigma is bijective. (c) Suppose that GG is an injective BB-module (§ 2, Exercise 11) and that EE is the cokernel of an AA-linear mapping Asm→AsnA_s^m \to A_s^n. Show that σ\sigma is bijective (start from the exact sequence Asm→Asn→E→0A_s^m \to A_s^n \to E \to 0 and use (b), the definition of injective modules and Theorem 1 of § 2, no. 1, and Proposition 5 of § 3, no. 6).
