Exercise 15, § 11

Algebra, III, 650

Let E be a free A-module of dimension nn. Let zz be a pp-vector over E and z∗z^* a (p+q)(p + q)-form on E; zz can be canonically identified (§7§ 7, Exercise 8) with the skewsymmetrization az1az_1 of a contravariant tensor z1z_1 of order pp and z∗z^* with the skewsymmetrization of a covariant tensor of order p+qp + q. If, in the mixed tensor z1.z∗z_1 . z^*, the kk-th contravariant index and the (p+k)(p + k)-th covariant index are contracted for 1≤k≤p1 \leq k \leq p, show that the covariant tensor of order qq thus obtained is skewsymmetrized and is canonically identified with the qq-form z∗∧zz^* \wedge z, up to sign.
