Let E be a free A-module of dimension nn. For every A-linear mapping vv of Λ(M)\Lambda(M) into an A-module G, we can write v=∑p=0nvpv = \sum_{p=0}^n v_p, where vpv_p is the restriction of vv to Λp(M)\Lambda^p(M); we then set ηv=∑p=0n(−1)pvp\eta v = \sum_{p=0}^n (-1)^p v_p, so that η2v=v\eta^2 v = v. Let uu be an isomorphism of M onto its dual M∗M^* and let Δ\Delta be the determinant of the matrix of uu with respect to a basis (ei)(e_i) of M and the dual basis of M∗M^* (a determinant which does not depend on the basis of M chosen). If ϕ\phi is the isomorphism of Λ(M)\Lambda(M) onto Λ(M∗)\Lambda(M^*) defined starting with e=e1∧e2∧⋯∧ene = e_1 \wedge e_2 \wedge \cdots \wedge e_n, show the formula

ηn+1Δϕ=⋀(tu)∘ϕ−1∘⋀(u). \eta^{n+1} \Delta \phi = \bigwedge^{(t_u)} \circ \phi^{-1} \circ \bigwedge(u).
