Exercise 14, § 7

Algebra, III, 636

Let M be a projective A-module and let x1,…,xnx_1, \ldots, x_n be linearly independent elements of M; for every subset H={i1,…,im}H = \{i_1, \ldots, i_m\} of m≤nm \leq n elements of the interval {1,n}\{1, n\}, where i1<i2<⋯<imi_1 < i_2 < \cdots < i_m, we write

xH=xi1∧xi2∧⋯∧xim. x_H = x_{i_1} \wedge x_{i_2} \wedge \cdots \wedge x_{i_m}.
Show that when H runs through the set of subsets of {1,n}\{1, n\} with m elements, the xHx_H are linearly independent in Λ(M)\Lambda(M).
