Exercise 2, § 1

Algebra, IV

Let f be a polynomial ≠0\neq 0 in A[X]A[X] of degree nn and leading coefficient ara_r. Let M be the submodule of A[X]A[X] (qua A-module) consisting of the polynomials in which the coefficient of the term of degree m (for arbitrary mm in N\mathbf{N}) is divisible by a0μa_0^\mu, where μ=max⁡(m−n+1,0)\mu = \max(m - n + 1, 0); show that for any polynomial g in M there exist two polynomials u, v in A[X]A[X] such that deg⁡v<n\deg v < n and g=uf+vg = uf + v.
