Algebra, IV, p. 94
Let k be a commutative ring and E a k-module. a) Show that there exists a unique homomorphism g of the algebra Γ(E) (Exercise 2) into the algebra TS(E) of symmetric tensors over E (IV, p. 43) such that
(g∘γp)(x)=x⊗x⊗…⊗x(p factorsx), for any
x∈E,p∈N. Show that if E is a free k-module with basis
(ei)i∈I, then g is an isomorphism of graded bigebras (cf. Exercise 3 and IV, p. 51) and the elements
γa=∏γa(i)(ei), where
a∈N(I), form a basis of
Γ(E).
b) Let ξ be a mapping of (1,n) into N and let p=∑i=1nξ(i). Show that for every sequence x1,x2,…,xn of elements of E, the image of γξ(1)(x1)…γξ(n)(xn) under g is ∑φφ(1)⊗…⊗φφ(p) where φ runs over the set of all mappings of (1,p) into (1,n) such that Card φ−1(i)=ξ(i) for each i∈(1,n) (cf. IV, p. 45, Prop. 3). c) Let f be the mapping of ⊗pE into Γp(E) defined by f(x1⊗…⊗xp)=γ1(x1)…γ1(xp) for any x1,…,xp∈E. Show that for each tensor t∈⊗pE, (g∘f)(t) is the symmetrization of t. Show that for each u∈Γp(E) we have (f∘g)(u)=p! u.
