Algebra, IV, p. 100

There exists a unique polynomial Pp,q(T0,…,Tp,U0,…,Uq)P_{p,q}(T_0, \ldots, T_p, U_0, \ldots, U_q) with integer coefficients such that for every ring A and any polynomials f=tpXp+…+t0,g=uqXq+…+u0f = t_p X^p + \ldots + t_0, g = u_q X^q + \ldots + u_0 of A[X]\mathbf{A}[X] we have

res⁡p,q(f,g)=Pp,q(t0,…,tp,u0,…,uq). \operatorname{res}_{p,q}(f, g) = P_{p,q}(t_0, \ldots, t_p, u_0, \ldots, u_q).

If we assign the weight i to TiT_i and UiU_i, then Pp,qP_{p,q} is isobaric of weight pq.
