Exercise 19, § 1

Algebra, VI, p. 32

Let GG be an additive group and (Pα)(P_\alpha) a nonempty family of subsets of GG such that Pα+Pβ⊂PαP_\alpha + P_\beta \subset P_\alpha and Pα∩(−Pα)={0}P_\alpha \cap (-P_\alpha) = \{0\}; let G+G_+ denote the ordered group obtained from GG by taking P+P_+ as the set of positive elements. Show that P+P⊂PP + P \subset P and P∩(−P)={0}P \cap (-P) = \{0\}, where P=∩PαP = \cap P_\alpha; if HH is the ordered group obtained from GG by taking PP as the set of positive elements, show that HH is isomorphic to the diagonal subgroup of the product of the GαG_\alpha.
