Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

An abelian group GG is isomorphic to a subgroup of the multiplicative group K∗K^* of nonzero elements of some commutative field KK if and only if the torsion subgroup TT of GG has rank ≤1\leq 1 (Ex. 22). (For the necessity of this condition, cf. V, p. 79, Prop. 2 ; use the same reference to show that the condition is sufficient for TT to be isomorphic to a subgroup of E∗E^*, for some field EE. For all a∈G/Ta \in G/T let gag_a be a coset representative of aa in GG, then, identifying TT with a subgroup of E∗E^*, we may write gagb=eαβg(αβ)g_a g_b = e_{\alpha\beta} g_{(\alpha\beta)} for all a,β∈G/Ta, \beta \in G/T, where eαβ∈Ee_{\alpha\beta} \in E. Show that there exists an EE-algebra BB with basis (bi)i∈G/T(b_i)_{i \in G/T} such that babb=eαβb(αβ)b_a b_b = e_{\alpha\beta} b_{(\alpha\beta)} for all a,βa, \beta, and prove that BB is an integral domain using VI, p. 33, Ex. 20, c). Then the field of fractions KK of BB satisfies the desired conditions.)
