Exercise 6, § 5

Algebra, VII, p. 70

Two pairs (A1,A2)(A_1, A_2) and (B1,B2)(B_1, B_2) of square matrices of order nn over a commutative field KK are said to be equivalent if there exist two invertible square matrices PP and QQ over KK such that A1=PB1QA_1 = PB_1Q and A2=PB2QA_2 = PB_2Q. If A1A_1 and B1B_1 are invertible, show that the pairs are equivalent if and only if the matrices XA1+A2XA_1 + A_2 and XB1+B2XB_1 + B_2 are equivalent over the ring K[X]K[X].
