Algebra, VIII, p. 424

Let (M,π)(M, \pi ) be a faithful[^1] finite-dimensional representation of G and (N,ρ)(N, \rho ) an irreducible representation; suppose that the character χπ\chi_{\pi} has exactly ss distinct values. Prove that there exists an integer n<sn < s such that the K[G]-module N is isomorphic to a submodule of M⊗nM^{\otimes n} (calculate ⟨χρ,χπn⟩\langle \chi_{\rho}, \chi^n_{\pi}\rangle, observing that the equality χπ(g)=\chi_{\pi}(g) = dim M is equivalent to g=1g= 1).

[^1]: This means that the homomorphism π:G→\pi : G\rightarrow AutK(M)_K(M) is injective.
