Theory of Sets, III, 217

Let A and B be two sets, and let R be any subset of A×B\mathrm{A} \times \mathrm{B}. For each subset X of A (resp. each subset Y of B) let ρ(X)\rho(\mathrm{X}) (resp. σ(Y)\sigma(\mathrm{Y})) denote the set of all y∈By \in \mathrm{B} (resp. x∈Ax \in \mathrm{A}) such that (x,y)∈R(x, y) \in \mathrm{R} for all x∈Ax \in \mathrm{A} (resp. (x,y)∈R(x, y) \in \mathrm{R} for all y∈By \in \mathrm{B}). Show that ρ\rho and σ\sigma are decreasing mappings, and that the mappings X→σ(ρ(X))\mathrm{X} \to \sigma(\rho(\mathrm{X})) and Y→ρ(σ(Y))\mathrm{Y} \to \rho(\sigma(\mathrm{Y})) are closures (Exercise 13) in P(A)\mathfrak{P}(\mathrm{A}) and P(B)\mathfrak{P}(\mathrm{B}) respectively (ordered by inclusion).
