Topological Vector Spaces, II, p. 91

a) Let EE be a Hausdorff, locally convex space and let AA be a cap of a convex set CC in EE. If s∈Cs \in C is a point not belonging to AA and if BB is the cone with vertex ss generated by AA show that the closure of B∩(C∩∁A)B \cap (C \cap \complement A) is a cap in BB. *b) Suppose that EE is finite dimensional. Show that every cap AA of a closed convex set CC in EE can be obtained in the following manner : consider a facet FF of CC (II, p. 87, exerc. 3) and a hyperplane HH in the affine linear variety VV generated by FF, such that FF is entirely on one side of HH, take as AA the set of points of FF contained between HH and a hyperplane H′H' of FF parallel to HH (use a) and prop. 4 of II, p. 38). Every extremal point of a facet of CC is an extremal point of CC. c) Give an example of a compact convex set CC in a Hausdorff locally convex space EE and of a cap AA of CC such that AA and C∩∁AC \cap \complement A each generate EE and that AA and C∩∁AC \cap \complement A cannot be separated by a closed hyperplane of EE (cf.* II, p. 78, exerc. 11).
