Topological Vector Spaces, IV, p. 73

Let SS be a set on which a group Γ\Gamma operates on the left (A, I, § 5, No. 1). Let EE be the real vector space B(S)\mathscr{B}(S) of all bounded numerical functions on SS (I, p. 4, Example). Suppose that the group Γ\Gamma (endowed with the discrete topology) has a left invariant mean, and let Γ\Gamma operate on EE in such a way that sf(x)=f(s−1x)sf(x) = f(s^{-1}x) for all s∈Γs \in \Gamma, f∈Ef \in E and x∈Sx \in S.

Let g∈Eg \in E be a positive function; let E1E_1 be the vector subspace of EE generated by the functions sgsg, where ss ranges over Γ\Gamma; let E2E_2 be the vector subspace of EE generated by the positive functions which are bounded by functions of E1E_1.

Show that if there exists a non null positive linear form ϕ\phi on E1E_1, which is invariant under Γ\Gamma, then there exists a non null positive linear form on E2E_2, which is invariant under Γ\Gamma. (Using prop. 1 of II, p. 21, first construct a positive linear form on E2E_2, which extends ϕ\phi, and let Γ\Gamma operate on the set of these extensions). In particular consider the case where g=1g = 1.
