Topological Vector Spaces, IV, p. 49

Let FF and GG be two vector spaces over R\mathbf{R} in separating duality. a) Let AA be a convex set in FF, not containing the origin, and compact for the topology σ(F,G)\sigma(F, G); let CC be the convex cone with vertex 0 generated by AA. Show that the polar cone C∘C^\circ in GG has an interior point for the topology τ(G,F)\tau(G, F): b) Conversely, let CC be a proper convex cone with vertex 0, closed for σ(F,G)\sigma(F, G) and having an interior point for the topology τ(F,G)\tau(F, G). Show that in GG there exists a hyperplane HH, closed for σ(G,F)\sigma(G, F), not containing the origin, such that H∩C∘H \cap C^\circ is compact for σ(G,F)\sigma(G, F) and (H∩C∘)∪{0}(H \cap C^\circ) \cup \{0\} generates C∘C^\circ.
