Topological Vector Spaces, IV, p. 51

a) Let E be a vector space, E∗E^* its algebraic dual. Show that the topology τ(E,E∗)\tau(E, E^*) is the finest locally convex topology and that the topology τ(E∗,E)\tau(E^*, E) is identical with σ(E∗,E)\sigma(E^*, E). b) Let E∗∗E^{**} be the algebraic dual of E∗E^*. Show that if E is infinite dimensional, then E is dense in E∗∗E^{**} for all the topologies compatible with the duality between E∗∗E^{**} and E∗E^*, but that the topology induced on E by τ(E∗∗,E∗)\tau(E^{**}, E^*) is distinct from τ(E,E∗)\tau(E, E^*).
