Exercise 10, § 1

Functions of a Real Variable, II, 80

Let ff be a regulated function on [a, b][a,\ b], taking values in EE, let gg be a regulated function on [a, c][a,\ c] (c>bc > b), taking its values in FF, and let (x,y)↦[x.y](\mathbf{x}, \mathbf{y}) \mapsto [\mathbf{x}.\mathbf{y}] be a continuous bilinear map from E×FE \times F into GG (E,F,GE, F, G being complete normed spaces). Show that

lim⁡h→0, h>0∫ab[f(t) g(t+h)]dt=∫ab[f(t) g(t)]dt \lim_{h \to 0,\ h > 0} \int_a^b [f(t)\ g(t + h)] dt = \int_a^b [f(t)\ g(t)] dt

(reduce to the case where ff is a step function).
