Functions of a Real Variable, II, 82

Let f\mathbf{f} be a regulated vector function on I=[a,b]⊂RI = [a, b] \subset \mathbf{R}, let u\mathbf{u} be a primitive of f\mathbf{f} on II and DD a closed convex set containing u(I)\mathbf{u}(I). Show that if gg is a real monotone function on II one has

∫abf(t)g(t) dt=(u(b)−c)g(b)+(c−u(a))g(a) \int_a^b \mathbf{f}(t) g(t) \, dt = (\mathbf{u}(b) - \mathbf{c}) g(b) + (\mathbf{c} - \mathbf{u}(a)) g(a)
where c\mathbf{c} belongs to DD (reduce to the case where gg is a monotone step function). Deduce that if ff is a real regulated function on II then there exists a c∈Ic \in I such that
∫abf(t)g(t) dt=g(a)∫acf(t) dt+g(b)∫cbf(t) dt \int_a^b f(t) g(t) \, dt = g(a) \int_a^c f(t) \, dt + g(b) \int_c^b f(t) \, dt
("the second mean value theorem").
