Functions of a Real Variable, II, 80

For a function ff, with values in a complete normed space EE, and defined on an open interval I⊂RI \subset \mathbf{R}, to be equal to a regulated function on II at all points of the complement of a countable subset of II, it is necessary and sufficient that it satisfy the following condition: for every x∈Ix \in I and every ε>0\varepsilon > 0 there exist a number h>0h > 0 and two elements a, ba,\ b of EE such that one has ∥f(y)−a∥≤ε\|f(y) - a\| \leq \varepsilon for every y∈[x,x+h]y \in [x, x + h], except for at most a countably infinite number of points of this interval, and ∥f(z)−b∥≤ε\|f(z) - b\| \leq \varepsilon for all z∈[x−h,x]z \in [x - h, x] except for at most a countably infinite number of points of this interval.
