Functions of a Real Variable, IV, 199

a) With the notation of IV, p. 165, suppose that ff is uniformly continuous on J×SJ \times S. Prove prop. 3 of IV, p. 166 without using the axiom of choice. (Let δ\delta be such that the relations ∣t2−t1∣≤δ,∥x2−x1∥≤δ|t_2 - t_1| \leq \delta, \|x_2 - x_1\| \leq \delta imply ∥f(t2,x2)−f(t1,x1)∥≤ε\|f(t_2, x_2) - f(t_1, x_1)\| \leq \varepsilon; consider a subdivision of JJ into intervals of length ≤inf⁡(δ,δ/M)\leq \inf(\delta, \delta/M) and define the approximate solution by induction.)

b) When EE is finite dimensional and ff is Lipschitz on I×HI \times H prove prop. 3 of IV, p. 166 without using the axiom of choice. (Remark that for every δ>0\delta > 0 there exists a finite number of points xix_i of SS such that every point of SS is at a distance ≤δ\leq \delta from one of the xix_i; then proceed as in aa), considering the regulated functions t↦f(t,xi)t \mapsto f(t, x_i), of which there are only a finite number.)
