Bourbaki

Exercise 7, Appendix 0

Functions of a Real Variable, V, 264

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let ff be an (H) function having a definition sequence of nn terms. Show that if one has ep((lq+1(x))β)≪f(x)≪ep((lq(x))α)e_p((l_{q+1}(x))^\beta) \ll f(x) \ll e_p((l_q(x))^\alpha) (resp. ep((lq(x))β)≪f(x)≪ep+1((lq(x))α)e_p((l_q(x))^\beta) \ll f(x) \ll e_{p+1}((l_q(x))^\alpha)) for every β>0\beta > 0 and every α\alpha such that 0<α<10 < \alpha < 1, then necessarily p+q+l<np + q + l < n (argue by induction on nn, using methods similar to those of exerc. 1 (V, p. 263) and 4 (V, p. 264)).
