Exercise 1, § 3

Functions of a Real Variable, V, 260

Define an increasing function gg, admitting a continuous derivative on a neighbourhood of +∞+\infty, such that gg and 1/x1/x are comparable to order 1, but that xx and 1/g1/g are not comparable to order 1 (take g′(x)=1g'(x) = 1 except on sufficiently small intervals with centres at the points x=nx = n (nn an integer >0> 0) on which g′g' takes very large values).
