a) Show that sin⁡xx∼sin⁡xx(1+sin⁡xx)\frac{\sin x}{\sqrt{x}} \sim \frac{\sin x}{\sqrt{x}} \left( 1 + \frac{\sin x}{\sqrt{x}} \right), but that the integral ∫a+∞sin⁡tt dt\int_a^{+\infty} \frac{\sin t}{\sqrt{t}} \, dt converges while the integral ∫a+∞sin⁡tt(1+sin⁡tt)dt\int_a^{+\infty} \frac{\sin t}{\sqrt{t}} \left( 1 + \frac{\sin t}{\sqrt{t}} \right) dt is infinite.

b) Show that the integrals ∫a+∞sin⁡tt dt\int_a^{+\infty} \frac{\sin t}{t} \, dt and ∫a+∞sin⁡2tt2 dt\int_a^{+\infty} \frac{\sin^2 t}{t^2} \, dt are both convergent but that ∫a+∞sin⁡2tt2 dt\int_a^{+\infty} \frac{\sin^2 t}{t^2} \, dt is not negligible relative to ∫a+∞sin⁡tt dt\int_a^{+\infty} \frac{\sin t}{t} \, dt, even though sin⁡2t/t2≪sin⁡t/t\sin^2 t / t^2 \ll \sin t / t.

c) Consider the two continuous functions with values in R2\mathbf{R}^2, defined on [1,+∞[[1, +\infty[:

f:x↦(1x2,sin⁡xx),g:x↦(1x2,sin⁡xx(1+sin⁡xx)). f : x \mapsto \left( \frac{1}{x^2}, \frac{\sin x}{x} \right), \qquad g : x \mapsto \left( \frac{1}{x^2}, \frac{\sin x}{x} \left( 1 + \frac{\sin x}{x} \right) \right).
Show that they do not vanish for any value of xx, that f∼gf \sim g as xx tends to +∞+\infty, that the integrals ∫a+∞f(t) dt\int_a^{+\infty} f(t) \, dt and ∫a+∞g(t) dt\int_a^{+\infty} g(t) \, dt converge, but that ∫a+∞f(t) dt\int_a^{+\infty} f(t) \, dt is not equivalent to ∫a+∞g(t) dt\int_a^{+\infty} g(t) \, dt as xx tends to +∞+\infty.
