Integration, IV, p. 140
Let f be a numerical function ≥0 defined in the space R+∗=]0,+∞[ and p-th power integrable for Lebesgue measure (1<p<+∞). Set F(x)=∫0xf(t)dt for all x>0.
a) Show that as x tends to 0 or to +∞, F(x)=o(x(p−1)/p) (use Hölder’s inequality).
b) Show that the function F(x)/x is p-th power integrable in R+∗ and that
∫0+∞(xF(x))pdx≤(p−1p)p∫0+∞(f(x))pdx
(Hardy’s inequality). (Consider first the case that f∈K(R+∗); for every compact interval [a,b]⊂R+∗, obtain an upper bound for the integral
∫ab(tF(t))pdt
by integrating by parts and making use of Hölder’s inequality.)
