Exercise 2, § 6

Integration, IV, p. 134

Let DD be a closed convex set in a Banach space FF, with nonempty interior, and let ff be a measurable function with values in FF, such that f(X)⊂Df(X) \subset D. Let gg be an integrable function ≥0\geq 0, not negligible, and such that fgfg is integrable. Suppose that the point

c=∫fg dμ∫g dμ c = \frac{\int fg\ d\mu}{\int g\ d\mu}

is a boundary point of DD; show that if VV is the intersection of all the closed support hyperplanes of DD at the point cc, then f(x)∈V∩Df(x) \in V \cap D almost everywhere in the set of points xx such that g(x)>0g(x) > 0 (reduce to the case that FF is a separable space (that is, contains a countable dense set), using Th. 4 of §5; then note that VV is the intersection of a countable family of support hyperplanes of DD at the point cc).

Show that if FF is finite-dimensional and if AA is the facet of the point cc with respect to DD (TVS, II, §7, Exer. 3), the hypothesis implies that f(x)∈Af(x) \in A almost everywhere in the set of points xx such that g(x)>0g(x) > 0 (argue by induction on the dimension of FF).
